The most expensive honey in the world?

The most expensive honey in the world is claimed to be Sidr Honey -- at $200 per kilo. You can even buy it online.

It comes from the Hadramaut Mountains in the Southwestern Arabian Peninsula, where it is harvested only twice per year. The honey is from bees who feast only on the pollen of the Sidr tree, considered by many to be a holy tree and is one of the most resilient, ancient tree varieties in the area. Sidr honey is reputed to have many medicinal benefits ...

The most expensive honey in the world? Once you try this, you will really know why! This pure, raw, unadulterated organic honey comes from the remote mountains of Hadramaut in the Southwestern Arabian Peninusula. Sure to spoil you for any other honey, this is one of the few foods out there that are good in taste and also good for you. A recent study comparing different honeys has shown that the Sidr Honey from Hadramaut has 18 times the antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals as any other honey! For at least the past 7000 years, the beekeepers living around Hadramaut had to travel up the mountains twice a year (summer and winter) to get their treasure. It is a long and painful process, but in the end, they have in their hands the most prized honey in the world due to its extremely limited production and amazing flavors. There is nothing else like it. Makes perfect gifts for any honey lover, including yourself. This is a true connoisseur's choice!

Sorry but it is not the most expensive honey in the world. The most expensive honey in the world is sold in England, which costs $83 per 120gr. And the second one is sold in Turkey, called Anzer honey, if you buy it directly from the producer the prices is about $330/kg, depending on the season the price goes up to $990 sometimes..

That is because they are manipulating the price. I still hail Yemen Honey rather than europes.

First of all, I would like to say that I couldn't find any honey that is as good as the sidr honey from Yemen.. its taste, color, and thickness. I love everything about Yemeni sidr honey.

The only thing that I don't like about it, is that its collected in the traditional way which can make it not safe. I have seen many websites that sell yemeni sidr honey and claim that there honey is the best, but almost none of them test their honey to verify safety and quality. So far, the only company that tests their honey regularly is yemensidrhoney.com but their prices are slightly higher than average.

"it's been proven to be 17 times better"

What utter nonsense. You can't quantify how good one honey is compared to others.

"That is because they are manipulating the price"

It's because honey production is highly reliant on weather; bees don't leave the hive if the weather is about 10 degrees or less. So a cold snap can halve the yield. What would you do as a bee-keeper? Just sell all the honey at the same price? Or might you need to feed and clothe yourself?

@Anonymous above, the person meant to say 17 times more antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals compared to other honey. You would have known this if you kept reading the other comments instead of rushing to criticize, but you're too arrogant to do that.

I am Canadian, and I have sampled several different brands of all of these sources of honey, and honey from Yemen is definitely the winner. Not even a close contest.

I had Brooklyn my honey
The Yemen honey is definitely up there but Brooklyn honey was superior
The urban vegetation makes it very unique

Brooklyn ny produces the best honey by far
It's unique because the urban vegetation
The hives produce less honey than rural hives
It's hard to get but worth the price

You can't say best honey in the world when you haven't tasted all different honey's.

I know that in Europe top 2 countries in honey and oil is Italy and Greece.

Its amazing to see people discussing the matter of taste! Taste is one of the things that is relative from person to person and for that reason honey can NOT categorized based upon the taste! It simply doesn't make any sense!

The second thing is, "expensive". Just because it is the most expensive it doesn't mean it is the "best".

And the term being the "best" goes to Manuka and Sidr honey. According to my knowledge the no other honey has been so extensively tested as the Manuka UMF and Sidr honey Winter harvest.

Manuka holds the average highest scores for killing bacteria such as MSSA.

And Sidr holds the number one place for the higest scores on the MRSA (the resistant one).

So Sidr and Manuka is the king here. The rest is just a matter of taste. But in terms of medical value and quality in this context, no one comes close to Manuka and Sidr.
