“Do you get stung?”

“Do you get stung?” -- the most-asked question of any beekeeper. Well, another blogger has displayed the evidence.

That's me in that picture. I got hit three times after bees got under my veil. Do you not have some amusing sting pictures? Three is by no means my record, I took nine hits on the morning of the first honey harvest this season. However it's stings near the eyes that swell most impressively.

Believe it or not, in ten years of beekeeping I've never been stung on the face by a bee. I have had those awful moments when I've seen the back of a bee and realised it was inside my veil, but they have been kind enough never to sting. So I'm afraid no puffy photos of me in my collection. Now, what makes me think I shouldn't have said that?

I did take a journalist from a national newspaper to see my bees once -- and guess what? Yes, a bee got inside his veil and stung him. The swelling eventually went down after a couple of days. He didn't sue and he didn't file a story, but he does now keep bees.
